Tanner

Hi! My name is Tanner. I am 23 years old and I graduated with a Healthcare Administration degree from Stonehill College in 2024. Will be my forth full summer on the island working with BI Babysitters! I am fully vaccinated, CPR and first aid certified, and have access to a car while on Block Island. My experience with children started when I became an older sister. I became their babysitters on a regular basis along with many of my cousins. From there I became a neighborhood babysitter gaining a lot of experience with kids at a young age. I have experience with newborns as well as older children. I really enjoy life and being goofy is one of my favorite things to do with children. I am very active with the children I babysit- whether it's going to the park or beach, making up games, taking hikes (looking for glass orbs!), or walking to get ice cream :)

Shannon

Hi, I’m Shannon. I am 24 and have graduated with my bachelors degree in Developmental Psychology. This is my 4th year working on Block Island and my love for this place is never-ending. I grew up in CT with two younger brothers and watched them, along with other children in the neighborhood frequently! My jobs on the mainland consist of working in a high school as a Youth Wellness Coach for 10th grade students, as well as working in a psychiatric hospital as a Mental Health Advocate. I got involved in psychology because I am fascinated with the human mind and how the brain develops in the early stages of life. In high school I was a religious educator for children looking to get confirmed, and I also was a soccer coach for ages 8-11! My goal in life is to create safe spaces for everyone so no one feels small or unheard. The world needs more kindness and I make it a point to help everyone feel valued and loved! 

Amy

Hi! My name is Amy. I am 35 years old & originally from NY. This is my third summer on Block Island and I love spending time outdoors - especially here! I have over 15 years of childcare experience having previously been employed as a preschool teacher, full time nanny, babysitter, daycare provider, swim instructor/lifeguard & a cheerleading coach. I am comfortable with all ages, and have experience with multiples as well as special needs & health issues including severe allergies. Some of my favorite activities while babysitting are arts & crafts, baking, going on walks and visits to the park! I have my own car on the island & am CPR & First Aid Certified. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your family! 

Sashanique

Hi! My name is Sashanique. I am 20 years old and from Jamaica. I am currently studying to become a Special Education teacher and I am in training at Church Teachers’ College. Teaching is my passion, especially when it comes to supporting students with special needs and helping them thrive both academically and socially. In addition to my studies, I am a Sunday School teacher at my local church, where I enjoy creating fun, faith-based lessons and activities for children. I also have a strong background in volunteer work, having served under Key Club, Leo Club, and Circle K. These experiences have allowed me to develop leadership skills, give back to my community, and work with children and people from all walks of life. I am very friendly, energetic, and compassionate. I have experience with all ages as well as infants. I love planning inclusive and exciting activities for the children I work with and always bring positive energy into any space I'm in. Whether in the classroom, at church, or out volunteering, I am committed to making a difference in the lives of young people.

Stephanie

Hello! My name is Stephanie, I’m 20 years old and I come from Romania. I’m currently studying Geography, along with a psycho-pedagogical module, which has given me a strong foundation in understanding child development and education. I have hands-on experience caring for children of different ages. Back in Romania, I looked after two wonderful girls, one was 5 years old and the other just 6 months. These experiences have deepened my love for working with children and strengthened my ability to adapt to their individual needs. I truly enjoy spending time with kids engaging them in fun, creativity, educational activities, and helping them discover new things. I’m a patient, caring, and responsible person, and I always strive to create a warm and safe environment for every child I care for. This is my first year on Block Island, and I’m very excited to start this new chapter, meet new families, and create wonderful experiences here.

Jay

Hello, my name is Yaderlin, but I go by Jay. I’m 24 years old and this is my first summer on Block Island. I have experience working with children from 8 months to 7 years old in primary school settings. I’ve also cared for my niece and nephews, which has given me practical experience in supporting young children’s needs. I’m currently studying Industrial Psychology in the Dominican Republic. My academic background has helped me better understand behavior, communication, and the importance of creating safe, structured environments—especially for children. I am CPR and First Aid Certified, I’m a responsible and reliable person, and I take my work seriously. I look forward to contributing to a smooth and positive experience for families and children coming to Block Island this summer.

Cat

Hey, I’m Cat! I’m a 26 year old from Virginia and this is my first time summer on Block Island! I graduated from Liberty University in 2018 with a degree in business marketing but quickly realized i’d much rather be taking care of kids than sitting in an office all day. I spent some time managing a coffee shop and babysitting kids on the side, but I worked my way up to being a full time nanny for the last 4 years and I’m absolutely loving it! I am CPR and First Aid Certified and believe that the more time spent outside, the better, so I love getting kiddos outside in nature whether it be long walks, park trips, or just hanging out in the yard! 

Rorie

Hi! My name is Rorie, and I have a long-standing passion for working with both animals and people. I’m originally from San Francisco, where I grew up exploring Redwood forests and Yosemite National Park, and I now live in Rhode Island after spending many years working and studying around the world. My first job was teaching swim lessons to children. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of educational roles, including leading environmental programs for elementary school children in New Orleans and teaching English online during my Master’s degree studies in Biology. I’ve also worked as a scuba instructor, a safari guide, and most recently, an expedition guide on small ships. In that role, I spent months at sea helping guests explore remote environments like Antarctica, the Arctic, and the South Pacific islands—developing and delivering nature programs and lectures while also ensuring everyone’s safety. I’m experienced in caring for kids of all ages, and I love creating fun, educational activities that help them feel confident and curious about the world around them. I’m calm, friendly, and safety-focused, with lots of hands-on experience in both teaching and caretaking. I’d love to bring that energy to your family!
